Volunteer Descriptions
Registration volunteers will welcome families in the narthex and check in pre-registered children by highlighting their names. Most kids will already be signed up, but you may help with occasional new registrations. Only one team member needs to be comfortable using an iPad and QR codes. This is a seated role and a great way to greet and connect with families as they arrive. (Current Volunteers: Jocelyn Sheldon, Kay Nance)
Game volunteers help kids play by the provided rules and hand out tickets for participation and wins. Bring the energy and fun! Feel free to adjust rules as needed—just try to keep them consistent throughout the day. Be generous with tickets, especially for younger kids. Children may play as many times as they’d like. (Current Volunteers: Brandon Ervin)
Store volunteers will help kids shop, collect tickets at checkout, and restock items as needed. Each child may enter the store only once—after their wristband is cut, they may not return. This helps us serve more families. The store is located in the chapel. Volunteers will monitor how many shoppers are inside at a time and may need to set a time limit if the line becomes backed up. (Current Volunteers: Rebecca Detling)
Snack volunteers will bag popcorn and hand out prepackaged cotton candy from the kitchen counter. Each child may turn in one ticket for one popcorn and one cotton candy. Popcorn will be ready that morning—volunteers should arrive early to begin bagging before the festival starts and continue as needed throughout the day. (Current Volunteers: Ginny Bertram, Cathy Cornell)
Face painting volunteers should have some artistic ability. All supplies are provided, and idea sheets are available for inspiration—though some volunteers prefer to use their phones for reference. Chewing gum or mints in the pocket might be a good touch for any face painting volunteers. (Current Volunteers:)
Food volunteers will plate and serve Wholly Smokes meals from the office window, preparing kids’ and adult meals as ordered. All food is provided, and side selections and payment are handled at the office window off the ramp. (Current Volunteers: Jane Tester, Bevin Fields)
Parking lot volunteers help set up tables and chairs in the morning, keep an eye on the bouncy houses, and monitor the area for safety. They also assist with wiping down tables, replacing trash bags, and resetting yard games as needed throughout the day. (Current Volunteers: Don Lockhart)
Our clean-up crew will arrive at 2:30pm, 30 minutes after the festival ends. This team plays a crucial role in wrapping up the event and allowing the volunteers who served throughout the day to head home and get some well-earned rest while the second shift steps in to finish the job. Please note that this role is more physically demanding and includes lifting and navigating stairs. (Current Volunteers:)
